We are going out for the day to do some errands and visit a couple touristy places here in town we haven’t been to yet and then we get ‘chinese’ takeout for dinner so I don’t have to cook (Can I admit that that is my favourite part?)

Proverbs 15: 1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

My husband and I have started a new habit. Each time one of us is snappy, sarcastic or insulting – whether in jest or in irritation we are to put a penny in it. We had been talking about doing this for a few days because I am seeing that it is a serious problem in our relationship. Oh, not that we fight constantly, although we do fight a lot, but we are continuously making snippy little comments at each other – they are often funny right now and it is hard to stay angry long, but I am noticing that it seems to be all we do and it is taking over our communication slowly. I feel worn out by it and long to have a kinder relationship. I fear that it will deteriorate us very quickly – I have heard it described once as planting little seeds of divorce; they start out small but soon smother the relationship. We are seeing evidence of its damage in other relationships, versus those we know of who don’t play this game.

The night we started the jar we had been semi-quarreling / semi-joking over something stupid and feeling frustrated, I brought the idea up again. He stomped off, grabbed a marker and a jar from recycling and drew up the little picture, plunked a fistful of change in and thumped it onto the shelf. We now have over $14 in it because we then kept childishly tossing handfuls of money in to cover past comments the other was bringing up. LOL! *sigh*

Thankfully though we have only put in 2 pennies since.

It is a habit we have both learned from our parents and society around us but it is one we need to break before it breaks us. The money will go to a charity when we feel the habit has been broken. Maybe one for domestic abuse.

And then I just now clicked on a link to get to my blog instead of coming in via my bookmarks and was told I couldn’t read it until I signed in ?!

I don’t know how or when I managed to do it but I privatized my blog. I think (hope?) I fixed it.

We used to push it as hard as we could and then jump off when we ‘reached our destination’ because it was an airplane (again – we were 5 ) I jumped but caught the swing edge and sliced a little piece of my thigh open. I have a little half moon scar there now, but it was big and bled a lot back then – I think that was the last time we played that game – hahaha

44. What message is on your voicemail machine? The electronic one that comes with the answering machine because we keep forgetting to personalize it, lol

46. What was the name of your first pet? Cindy. A poor tormented little grey kitten that may have been a he despite the name – this was when I was 4 – I remember chasing it behind the hydreangea bush trying to catch it.

47. What kind of back pack do you have, and what’s in it? I have a cheap blue and grey one for when I go (hahahahaha) to the gym

48. Last incoming/outgoing call on your phone? Incoming…Ttoy calling from work to get a grocery list…Outgoing…Troy calling a coworker about a shift change

49. What is one thing you are grateful for today? My family…my salvation…I could list so many things – My daughter is in London with grandma and having a nice time and her small cold isn’t the swine flu because she is on the mend – i was worried for a bit

A weekly verse to memorize

I need to step up my bible memorization so I am going to be sharing a weekly set of verses here. All verses will of course be in KJV. Feel free, if you want, to memorize along with me.

Psalm 139: 1-6

Zucchini Cheese Soup

When I was on the coast in April to watch my niece and nephew for a few days I did a lot of thrift shopping. While in one of the Value Villages I found this cookbook for $2.99. I haven’t actually made anything from it yet because when I got home I stuck in my cookbook shelf to look at later and promptly forgot about it. We had a thunderstorm earlier today so I turned off the computer and in my boredom picked it to flip through. It looks like it contains a lot of inexpensive-ish recipes that aren’t overly complicated to cook.

This is one I am planning on making because our zucchini is coming in now.

Zucchini Cheese Soup

2 large zucchini, cut into quarter inch slices

1/2 lb bacon

1 onion, finely chopped

1 green pepper, finely chopped

2 cups water

2 tsp salt

1/2 stick butter

1/2 cup flour

31/2 cups milk

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Fry bacon until crisp. Remove and blot on paper towel. Reserve 3 tbsp bacon grease and discard the rest. Saute the onion and green pepper in the reserved grease. add zucchini, water and 1 tsp salt. Cover and bring to a boil. Simmer minutes. In a medium sauce pan melt butter. Add flour and 1 tsp salt, stirring constantly to make a thin paste. Gradually add milk, very slowly, stirring constantly until all the milk has been added. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the consistency of gravy. Add Worcestershire sauce and cheese. Stir in vegetables and mix well. Spoon into bowls and top each serving with crumbled bacon.
